Waitress was great. Attentive, knowlegable, and knew when not to bother us.
First impressions are everything with Italian cuisine. The environment was that of a traditional restaurant in Italy. The look was very classy, and organized. I wouldn't feel comfortable walking in with shorts and a t shirt. The gentleman playing piano is a great idea for tying in the theme very well. The drinks were served very fast, and the food was amazing. Portion sized are huge, so order half orders if you're eating on the light side. The dinning room and bar are somewhat separate, which doesn't make it feel like you're just at some fancy bar. Super clean all the way down to the bathroom tiles! Lastly, the mozzarella sticks where the nest I've ever tried in my life! My wife, who happens to be the Amazing Chef Liz, (professionally) said they were the best also. I will be returning and recommending this place.
Note that the portions were quite large (for what we ordered at least). The Italian nachos were a huge hit - crispy fall-apart chips with olives, banana peppers, and alfredo/mozzarella. Definitely enough to share and quite filling. Also tried the fish fry which was solid.
In the late 60s when living in Rome thus was the place to go. Over the past few years I have come back for family funerals...The Savoy was still the place to gather. Gr8 food, professional, very pleasant staff.
We stopped here on our way through Rome toward the Adirondacks (Old Forge area) - this restaurant is a convenient detour from the recommended route to the Old Forge area from Buffalo, Rochester, or Syracuse. It's about the 1/2 way point from Rochester. I would recommend a back-track to route 365 if you stop here though, rather than heading north and trying to cut through back-roads to route 12, as some of the routes Google Maps will recommend will lose GPS/Data for you in the midst of the mountains.
I really enjoyed my experience here. The place has a lot of history, and the bartender had been working there for many years and had a lot of good stories. Classy upscale atmosphere, very good drink options, and a cozy vibe.
The Savoy has quite unique decor with a ring of college banners around the dining room and a collection of seemingly random pictures covering the walls. Service was quick and pleasant and we really enjoyed the food.
Solid four stars. They serve the best Italian dishes and at reasonable prices. Better than almost all the Italian restaurants in CT. Recommended to us by some locals.
